Praia, May 5 (Inforpress) – The Cabo Verdean MP in the ECOWAS Parliament, Orlando Dias, today highlighted the important role this House has had in strengthening the economic and political integration in the sub-region, especially in democracy, pointing out the constraints it still faces.
Orlando Dias was speaking to the press on the sidelines of a lecture on “The West African Parliament in promoting Democracy in Africa”, held by the board of Group I, based at Abílio Duarte High School.
According to the parliamentarian, the lecture served to speak to students about the ECOWAS Parliament role in promoting democracy in Africa, the role this House has had in strengthening economic and political integration in “our sub-region”, mainly in the promotion of democracy, representative democracy, peace, security, and the defense of human rights.
He also highlighted Parliament’s achievements in these five mandates, namely monitoring ECOWAS agencies spread across these countries and their articulation with the different institutions of this community.
