Red Cross: Group of volunteers considers 12th General Assembly illegal and promises to challenge the results

Praia, Nov 26 (Inforpress) – A group of “dissatisfied” volunteers from the Cabo Verde Red Cross (CVCV) considers the 12th General Elective Assembly, convened for today and Saturday, illegal, and promises to challenge the results of the elections which have as its only candidate the current president.

On behalf of the group, which includes the last three presidents of CVCV, José Mário Correia, former member of the board of the Superior Council, said the assembly begins under the sign of fraud, since the Statute that serves as the basis for the call is an “illegal” Statute, which has not met the traditional requirements required by the International Red Cross.

“Whatever the change to the Statute, it will necessarily have to make a mandatory route that is to be approved internally in the Assembly, but also be approved by the International Red Cross and still analyzed through the Government to verify to what extent this Statute is in accordance with national legislation”, he explained.

José Mário Correia said it is a situation that was “deliberately set up” by the outgoing president himself, Arlindo Carvalho, to get re-elected and blocking the path to other volunteers who want to give their contribution to the higher level of the Red Cross.
