Praia, Jun 15 (Inforpress) – Psychologist Isabel Santos urged young people to better treat the elderly and be more attentive to their behavior changes in order to provide or request the necessary help from the institutions responsible.
Isabel Santos made this appeal in an interview with Inforpress, in the context of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is observed today, stating that the elderly play an “important role” in the development process of Cabo Verdean society.
“We younger people still have a lot to learn from the elderly, so what is recommended is to pay attention to our elderly, give affection, love and be attentive to see if any situation changes, be more patient, provide help or ask wherever it is needed,” she said.
For Isabel Santos, Cabo Verdean society has known, in a certain way, to value the elderly, but advocates more care and protection. She said verbal violence and physical violence are the most frequent among the elderly, noting that many grandparents in Cabo Verde are responsible for the education of their grandchildren and many of them may be subject to verbal violence by their grandchildren.
