Private sector representative considers coorect the visa waiver measure for European tourists

Praia, April 17 (Inforpress) – The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Service of Sotavento (CCISS), Jorge Spencer Lima, considers correct the Government’s measure of visa waiver to European Union (EU) tourists and from the United Kingdom.

As he explained in the Cabo Verde Television (TCV) Sunday Newscast, this is a measure that the executive had to take to attract more tourists and reach the goal of one million in the coming years, which, moreover, was defined by successive governments .

“One million tourists a year can only be reached with two measures. First is to build hotels to the extent that existing ones have an occupancy rate of almost 90 percent (about 640 thousand tourists / year) and we have to attract additional tourists to Cabo Verde, “he said.

Regarding to hotel construction, Jorge Spencer Lima said that steps are already being taken with the construction of several hotel developments in the islands of Sal, Boa Vista and Santiago, and the country will have in two years more than 3.600 rooms.

“This will mean that we will have a capacity to receive more than 300.000 tourists, but we must attract them,” he said, adding that visa waiver is one of the ways to attract tourists.
