Praia, April 13 (Inforpress) – The Court of the District of Praia on Wednesday condemned the six defendants of “Operation Prince III” involved in drug trafficking in April 2016, to effective prison sentences ranging from four to 10 years and four months.
The convicts, one Cabo Verdean, four Brazilians and one Russian, awaiting trial under pre-trial detention had allegedly been caught on April 17, 2016, in a joint operation involving the Judiciary Police and the Coast Guard on board the fishing vessel “Prince III,” from Latin America, while trying to unload 178 kilograms of cocaine in Cabo Verde.
The Court of the District of Praia acquitted, however, all those involved, including the defendants awaiting trial subjected to Statement of Identity the Identity and Residence (TIR), of the criminal association charge.
Of those convicted in this operation, the major penalty was awarded to the Cabo Verdean Fernando Varela, 10 years and four months in prison, while a Soviet citizen was sentenced to four years in prison.
