Ribeira Brava, 17 May (Inforpress) – The prime minister said Wednesday that it was important not to ignore the fact that Cabo Verde is going through “very difficult” periods of crisis that have affected all world economies and that the “put down” speech of the opposition PAICV will not affect governance.
Ulisses Correia e Silva thus reacted to the statements by the deputy and national adviser of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV – opposition) António Fernandes, according to which Cabo Verde lost 32 thousand jobs from 2016 to 2022, due to “wrong policy” of the Government supported by the MpD.
“The Government has been creating jobs. We had a period of severe drought from 2016 to 2020 where there was a loss of around 19,000 jobs in the agrarian sector, then there was a recovery. What matters is that at this stage the country’s economy is growing well”, he said.
According to Ulisses Correia e Silva, despite the covid-19 pandemic and the inflationary crisis resulting of the war in Ukraine, the country manages to be resilient and absorb shocks.
