Praia, Oct 8 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, assumed that the country is unable to update workers’ wage, a result of the “strong impact” the pandemic had on the national economy.
According to him, the State of Cabo Verde is not able to make a wage update at this time, explaining that this update involves increased public expenditure and increased expenditure by companies.
“And that would create serious problems in the situation we have today of pandemic and crisis, and would also create problems for public finances, businesses and citizens,” he said.
Ulisses Correia e Silva made this statement Thursday when urged on the increase in the price of energy in Cabo Verde, but the wage update was not made, clarified that to finance this increase the Government would have to increase taxes on income, on profits, plus VAT, in order to finance the increase in expenditure resulting from this wage update.
