Prime Minister announces reforms for 2023 in higher education

Praia, Oct 4 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister announced Monday a set of reforms in higher education for 2023 and urged Cabo Verdean universities to establish good partnerships with counterparts from partner countries in Cabo Verde, with the Government ensuring diplomacy.

Ulisses Correia e Silva made this announcement during the opening of the school year at the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV), where he stressed that higher education as a strategic axis for the development of the country “must be of excellence and sustainable”, stressing that the ambition is to align the national education system with the OECD countries, “as a path to be followed with determination”.

In this perspective, he pointed out a series of reforms for the coming year, such as the revision of the legal regime of higher education institutions, adjustments in the system of regulation, institutional and scientific evaluation and guarantee of the quality of education, the implementation of the Research Agenda and the approval of the National Science Plan and the approval of the Statute of University Professor and Researcher.

He referred to harmonization as international best practices, announced measures for 2023 as procedures for accreditation of higher education institutions study cycles and equivalences and recognition of academic degrees obtained abroad and also announced a programme to improve the economic and financial sustainability of higher education institutions with the safeguarding of quality criteria to high standards.
