Praia, Sep 28 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic said today that the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) is at the forefront of the judicial structure of Cabo Verde “with great expectations regarding its production and its labor”.
“… The STJ is seen as a reference court, whose decisions must reflect an in-depth analysis of current regulations, and be based on clear and eloquent grounds, thus embodying jurisprudential references to other courts and to the community,” said Jorge Carlos Fonseca when he inaugurated the new advisor to the Supreme Court of Justice, Maria Teresa Évora Barros.
According to the President of the Republic, in organized societies, especially in modern democratic states, the causes of justice “represent one of the most demanding challenges that institutions are called to respond to.”
According to Jorge Carlos Fonseca, the perception of the effectiveness of justice in the communities, and the fairness and predictability of judicial decisions, are “determining factors and conditioning factors for the consolidation and development of civil society, in its different aspects.”
“The STJ can play a very important role in consolidating Cabo Verdean democracy by helping to ensure that ordinary citizens do not perceive the existence of two justices: one for the poor and one for the rich,” said the highest magistrate of the nation.
