President of the Republic says Africa can be a major player on the international stage in the next 40 years

Luxembourg, May 25 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic recognized today that the African continent is still not a relevant player in the international arena, but that if it works, it will be possible, in the next 40 years, to be that relevant player in the world.

José Maria Neves made this observation in a message for Africa Day, during his three-day state visit that ends today in Luxembourg, at the invitation of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.

“Africa today is not a relevant actor in the international arena, but it can, if it asserts a new leadership, if there is a more active participation of the civil society in the development process and if we have a will to realize the common good we will be able to build a united Africa, strong, cohesive, prosperous, modern and inclusive, where all Africans can live in dignity”, he said.

For José Maria Neves, Africa has the capacity, on the continent and in its “immense diaspora”, with talents, resources and everything for the continent to “work out”.
