President of INE highlights the importance of training technicians in data anonymization

Praia, Sep 11 (Inforpress) – The chairman of the board of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), João Cardoso, stressed the need for the institution’s technicians to be trained in order to successfully carry out data anonymization and dissemination operations.

João Cardoso made this point in statements to Inforpress, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the training action on data anonymisation, aimed at INE technicians, which started today and ends on the 19th of this month, recalling that one of INE’s missions it has to do with the dissemination of statistical micro-data.

However, he pointed out that the law states that micro-data should only be made available to users if it is anonymised to the point where the protection of individual data is not compromised.

“The ultimate objective of data anonymization is essentially to make available to the general public, in particular researchers, teachers, students, the database for research and production of knowledge”, he indicated.
