Praia, Jun 8 (Inforpress) – Fishermen Associations of Praia point to illegal fishing, lack of security, mainly means of rescue and towing, as main constraints the sector goes through and call on the authorities to take “solid measures”.
Speaking to Inforpress on World Oceans Day, celebrated annually on June 8, the president of the Fishermen and Fishmakers Association of Achada Grande Trás and São Tomé (APPAST), Alberto Tavares, said the problems “are many”.
As he pointed out, they have come up with many constraints, of which he pointed out, fisheries are considered illegal, especially those made with mesh net “that is not a sustainable fishing and is killing fish”.
Following the same tuning, the president of the Fishermen and Fishmonger Association of Achada Grande Frente (APPAGF), Vanusa Moreno, assessed that safety for fishermen, especially better means of rescue and towing, as well as the improvement in the media between captaincy police and fishermen, for when there are incidents on the high seas, are important aspects that need a quick solution.
