Portuguese Navy’s hydro-oceanographic ship visits Mindelo for scientific and cooperative security actions

Mindelo, Oct 28 (Inforpress) – The Portuguese Navy’s hydro-oceanographic ship, NRP D. Carlos I, docks at the Porto Grande of Mindelo this Thursday, framed in the Open Sea Initiative, with a scientific and cooperative security in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Open Sea Initiative 2021.2, according to information from the Defense Attaché at the Embassy of Portugal in Praia, aims to contribute to maritime situational knowledge, scientific development and cooperative security on the West African Coast.

“In the pursuit of national foreign policy objectives in meeting international commitments made by Portugal with the countries of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), namely Cabo Verde, Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, also foresees a stopover in Senegal,” João Domingos explained in a statement sent to Inforpress.

As part of the defense cooperation, presence and naval diplomacy activities will be carried out with the Angolan Navy, the Cabo Verde Coast Guard and the Sao Tome and Principe Coast Guard, including technical and scientific cooperation activities with the National Institute of Hydrography and Maritime Signaling from Angola and the Cabo Verde Sea Institute (IMar).
