Lisbon, 12 Sep (Inforpress) – Clara Marques, born in City of Praia, owner of the restaurant “Sabores da vida”, in Alfornelos, Lisbon, stated that she is inspired by Cape Verdean women to overcome daily challenges, as they are “strong and resilient.”
Speaking to Inforpress, the owner of the restaurant, which has been a success among Cape Verdeans living in Portugal and other countries, said that she arrived in Portugal 20 years ago to study, having graduated in Social Work at the University of Trás -os-Montes.
She started a master’s degree in Children and Youth at Risk, which she did not complete, having come to Lisbon to start working, never in her area of training, and, in 2020, she decided to take a risk and started making Cape Verdean snacks at home, such as cuscuz, corn pastry and sweet milk, in the middle of the pandemic, with sales through social network.
“I arrived at 18 years old, my first time in Portugal, a country completely unknown to me, but always very focused on what I came to do. When I finished my studies, the idea was to return to Cabo Verde, but then I started working and one of the things that made me stay was the fear of going and being another mouth for my parents to feed if I didn’t find work”, she said.
