Portugal: Group of JPAI militants contest election of new president who says was legitimately elected

Lisbon, Mar 2 (Inforpress) – A group of Youth activists from the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (JPAI), in Portugal, is contesting the election of Gelson Rodrigues as president of the organization, but he claims he was legitimately elected.

The group led by Fredilson Semedo, who identifies himself as the leader of a list competing for the elections for the municipal leadership of the JPAI-PT, requested on February 24, the JPAI Jurisdiction and Audit Commission, the annulment of the decision to set the date of the elections for February 26, requesting an “urgent response”.

The group advised the “reposition of statutory legality”, taking into account the stipulated timetable and asked for the decision to be annulled, justifying it with a set of facts, namely that since 2019 JPAI-PT has been “totally inactive”.

According to Fredilson Semedo, although the members that make up his list have been carrying out preparatory acts to present themselves for the elections, on February 20. A communication was published on the JPAI-PT Facebook page, “inactive” since 2021, announcing the setting of the date of the elections for February 26, giving a period of six days between the date of appointment and the one fixed for the election.
