Porto Novo, Jun 30 (Inforpress) – Users in the city of Porto Novo expect that the creation of the Águas de Santo Antão company this year will contribute to the reduction of water prices in this city, whose tariffs are considered “very high”.
The citizens, approached by Inforpress, say they believe that the creation of the intermunicipal water company, within the scope of the conversion of water sector into corporate public entities in Santo Antão, will contribute to the reduction of water tariffs in Porto Novo, in force since 2014 and considered “the highest” practiced in the country.
Cândida Fortes, one of the residents, recalls that, insistently, users have warned of the need to lower the water price consumed in the city of Porto Novo, a concern also defended by local authorities, she said.
“For many years, we have been asking for a reduction in the price of water in Porto Novo, as it is very high”, pointed out João Silva, who informed that, in these times of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been very difficult for families to pay these tariffs.
Regarding domestic consumption, tariffs vary between 281 escudos and 550 escudos / cubic meter, but for industry, commerce and tourism, prices are fixed, respectively, at 484 escudos, 505 escudos and 627 escudos / ton, a value also considered “very high” fo the economic operators.
