Porto Novo: Recovery of the underground dam will allow to mobilize 350 thousand cubic meters / year from 2019

Porto Novo, Nov 7 (Inforpress) – The recovery of the underground dam at Chã de Branquinho, in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, scheduled for 2019, will increase the availability of water for agriculture in this county, with a mobilization of 350 thousand cubic meters / year.

This dam, which was inaugurated in 2012 as part of the project to reorganize the Alto Mira basin, has not been working for more than two years after suffering heavy damage during the floods that struck Santo Antão in 2016, and it’s depending on the construction of the access road to Chã de Branquinho, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA).

The Government announced next year the construction of the access road to Chã Branquinho, within the framework of the program for rehabilitation, recovery and accessibility, which provides for investments around 117 million escudos in the entire municipality of Porto Novo.

With the recovery of this hydraulic infrastructure, the availability of water for agriculture, both in Chã de Branquinho and Clementim, but also in the bordering areas, such as Cueva de Vassoura and probably Morro Cavalo, will increase, significantly, according to the MAA.
