Porto Novo: Problems of sanitation and supply of water overcome until the end of 2018 – City Hall

Porto Novo, April 25 (Inforpress) – The problems faced by the municipality of Porto Novo in the water and sanitation areas should be overcome by the end of 2018, according to the City Hall’s forecast.

At the moment, the Government is negotiating with the French Development Agency (AFD) a financing of more than one million escudos, in order to implement, in the short term, an emergency plan for Porto Novo, with a view above all to solve problems related to sanitation.

According to the mayor of Porto Novo, Anibal Fonseca, this plan aimed mainly at resolving “the serious constraints” that are occurring in this municipality in terms of management and treatment of liquid waste, it will also include interventions in the water distribution network, already much obsolete

The expansion of the sewerage network, which has been saturated for more than 10 years, and the installation of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) are the main investments foreseen under this emergency plan, which appears in the framework of the Water and Sanitation for Santo Antao, in the horizon 2035.

The Water and Sanitation Plan for the Santo Antao Island, already approved, foresees, by 2035, investments of almost 4.5 million escudos in these two areas.
