Porto Novo, Oct 22 (Inforpress) – Members of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), Damião Medina, elected by Santo Antão, defends “new investments” in the solar photovoltaic plant in Monte Trigo, a fishing village, isolated in the coutryside of the municipality of Porto Novo.
This MP, who was recently in that locality, integrating a parliamentary delegation, headed by the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Santos, considers that it is already “a necessity” to invest in the reinforcement of this project, since “the batteries have already given its life time”.
The Monte Trigo photovoltaic power plant, which opened in 2012, has been operating since the early months of 2018, with difficulties due to the fact that the batteries are at the end of its useful life, a concern that has been raised several times by the 75 families residents in this community, which was the first in Cabo Verde to be electrified 100 percent (%) with solar energy.
However, says Damião Medina, the City Hall of Porto Novo is “very engaged” looking for a partnership, especially with the Government, to obtain financing for investments in this unit, estimated at over eight million escudos.
