Porto Novo, Nov 12 (Inforpress) – Farmers in Manuel Lopes, in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, are trying to recover from the “high losses” registered in the last few months with the stoppage of local agriculture due the lack of water, and relaunch its activity.
The farmers, who have damages of around eight million escudos and reported it, now have the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) in the resumption of agriculture in Manuel Lopes, with the normalization, last week, of water supply in this area.
The borehole in Manuel Lopes, which had been inoperative for six months, was equipped last week with a new pumping system, thus resuming the production of water for agriculture and public supply in that locality.
The delegate of the MAA in Porto Novo told Inforpress that this ministry will work with farmers to resume operations in Manuel Lopes and has already discussed with the farmers “concrete measures” in this regard, such as parcel recovery and exemption, for some time, payment of the water production rate.
