Porto Novo: Farmers in Ribeira Carpinteiro expect since 2012 the recovery of this devastated zone with uncontrolled extraction of inert

Porto Novo, Nov 5 (Inforpress) – Farmers in Ribeira de Carpinteiro, in Ribeira das Patas, Porto Novo, have been waiting for six years for works to recover this area, which was devastated between 2010 and 2012 with uncontrolled extraction of inerts.

During this period, a large amount of stones, used in the expansion works of the port of Porto Novo, was removed in Ribeira de Carpinteiro, leaving unprotected springs and agricultural land that, in the floods of 2015 and 2016, ended up suffering heavy damages.

This situation, according to farmers, led to a decline in agricultural activity in that area.

João Lima, a farmers’ representative, told Inforpress that one of the three springs in the area has been recovered, but farmers are still waiting for the torrential correction works, but also for the recovery of other sources and land promised by the Government since 2012.
