Porto Novo, Jul 23 (Inforpress) – The training of farmers in Planalto Leste, Santo Antão, aiming at the efficient use of water is the bet of the agri-forestry systems project in this island, which has already carried out in this locality a pilot experience on the use of drip irrigation.
In addition to the training course to farmers on efficient use of water, a water reservoir has already been built and the drip irrigation system has been installed in the experimental land at Planalto Leste.
For this, a low-cost technique was used, explains the Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola, Portugal, promoter of the project.
The creation of three experimental lands in Casa de Meio and in the Planalto Norte and Planalto Leste, the tests for cultivation of forage species and for the production of feed are ongoing, the installation of fog water collection system, the catchment systems and reservoirs for rainwater are other actions planned by the project, initiated in March and lasting 20 months.
