Porto Novo, Oct 29 (Inforpress) – The North Plateau in Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, for many “the face” of the drought that hit Cabo Verde, faces “an adverse year”, marked by droughts which brings the “resilient people”of this locality to their knees where “almost everything” is missing.
If, in 2017, the drought, which severely punished that part of the territory, which was once the granary of the Santo Antão Island (some say of Barlavento), has put to the test the almost 70 families still living in the North Plateau, in 2018 people seem to be bending in the face of so many adversities, crying out for the help for “persons entitled to it”.
According to António Sabino Lima, president of the community association in North Plateau, the people of this locality must be “very resistant” to withstand this drought without precedent that punishes, and in what way, the local populations.
He warns that the situation is “extremely serious and requires urgency” in terms of solution.
