Porto Novo, May 25 (Inforpress) – The fishing activity in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, has been marked, in recent days, by “good catch”, to the delight of fishermen, who have complained, in recent years, of the lack of fish in coastal areas.
Operators have been satisfied with the capture at a time when artisanal fishing in Porto Novo has been affected by the reduction of fish.
The Porto Novo Fishermen’s Association, “concerned” with the reduction of fish in coastal areas, has been defending the need to move towards “reconversion” of the fisheries sector in this municipality, to “meet the artisanal fishing operators difficulties”.
There are close to 200 small boat fishermen throughout the county, who say they are facing “a very difficult situation” due to reduced catches, a reality that, according to environmentalists, is due to the climatic changes have had “harmful effects” in the fisheries sector.
