Porto Novo, Oct 6 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Agriculture and Environment noted, in Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, that “there is good pasture production” in this municipality, but admitted that “in terms of dry farming there will not be good results”.
Speaking to the press this Monday, at the end of a visit to the countryside of the municipality of Porto Novo, Gilberto Silva was satisfied with the good fodder production in the pasture areas, but he was not optimistic about the dry farming production, especially in “areas do not have much propensity for agriculture”.
“We have good pasture production. In terms of dry farming there will not be good results in areas do not have much propensity for agriculture”, underlined the minister, also highlighting the fact that there was“ enough groundwater recharge”, in addition to the“ good functioning” of the boreholes.
Thanks to the groundwater recharge and the increase in the flow of the boreholes, Gilberto Silva said he believes there is “the possibility of capturing water for irrigation throughout the year”.
