Porto Novo / Agricultural year: Farmers suspend farming due to the armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) pest

Porto Novo, Oct 8 (Inforpress) – Farmers in several agricultural valleys in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, have already suspended maize weeding because armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) pest affecting the crop.

This is the case of Planalto Norte, where farmers, faced with the devastating action of armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) pest, chose to suspend the weeding work, according to farmers Manuel Lima and Francisca Rocha.

In other areas such as Ribeira das Patas, Alto Mira, Ribeira Fria, farmers also consider maize crops to be lost due to pests, namely armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda).

In Ribeira das Patas, the largest agricultural valley in this municipality, the farmers’s representative, Arlindo Delgado, dismisses the corn crop due to this pest, which infests practically the entire municipality of Porto Novo.
