Perla Negra: Failures in the drug trafficking judicial procedings lead to release of foreign prisoners

Mindelo, May 4 (Inforpress) – Failures in the drug-trafficking judicial procedings “Perla Negra” lead to the release, on Wednesday, of the three Spanish defendants, Cuban and Swedish, remaining in the Central Prison of Sao Vicente the Cabo Verdean Alexandre Borges, sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The lawyer Jose Villalonga of the Spanish Juan Fernandez Bustus and Carlos Ortega Aleman, of the Cuban Ariel Benitez and of the Swedish Patcrik Komarov, Felix Cardoso, said to Inforpress this morning that the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) had already overturned the trial and resubmitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for repetition of the act.

At the origin of this decision was the non-hearing of the defendants in their language, Spanish and English.

The lawyer explained that the maximum term of preventive custody is 30 months, which expires on Friday, 5th, and the investigating judge, who is the “freedom”, according to Felix Cardoso, ordered the release of foreign prisoners, victims of a “monstrous illegality”.

In relation to Alexandre Borges, better known in Mindelo as Xande Badiu, the lawyer maintains that he should be “fairly judged”, which, he thinks, did not happen because he had not been able to defend himself against the appeal by the Public Prosecutor (MP), “according to the law”.
