Parliament: UCID says transparency must include information on budget execution and public spending

Praia, Mar 22 (Inforpress) – The deputy of the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID-opposition), António Monteiro, defended today that transparency in Democracy is the ability of the Government and public institutions to provide clear and accessible information about its activities and decisions.

“This includes information on budget execution, public spending, public policies and decision-making processes, research data and other matters relevant to citizens”, said the parliamentarian at the beginning of the debate with the Prime Minister on the transparency and quality of democracy in Cape Verde.

António Monteiro also said that “transparency is important”, because it allows citizens to understand how the Government is working and to hold it accountable for their own actions.

Furthermore, he added, transparency can also help prevent corruption and promote citizens’ trust in public institutions.
