Parliament: PAICV says that all privatizations “failed clamorously”

Praia, Mar 22 (Inforpress) – The African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV-opposition) said today, during the parliamentary debate with the Prime Minister on transparency and the quality of Democracy in Cabo Verde, all those privatizations “failed clamorously”.

The leader of the PAICV parliamentary group, João Baptista Pereira, expressed this point of view, for whom the examples of these “failures” are in the privatization of TACV, which, according to him, should be at least a case study.

“Unlike the 11 planes promised, the country is currently carrying a huge debt to which is added the lack of inter-island connections. In fact, in 2022 alone, 10 million euros were injected into TACV and a further 30 million will be injected by 2026 and a new strategic partner will be negotiated to privatize”, he said.

Addressing the Prime Minister, this parliamentarian argued to share the information about this new strategic partner with Cape Verdeans, so as not to do the same thing he did in 2016 with Icelanders.
