Praia, Mar 26 (Inforpress) – The national MPs approved this Thursday, unanimously, the draft law establishing the National Day of Batuco to be observed on July 31, African Women’s Day.
The National Day of Batuco aims to promote and guarantee the defense of human rights, population, women’s rights, and Cabo Verdean music genre, traditionally performed by women, which is based on percussion, singing and dance, mainly in Santiago Island.
The National Day of Batuco, approved during the last parliamentary session of the legislature, aims to value and exalt the batuco as one of the oldest musical genres of Cabo Verde, recognizing its importance as a national heritage.
It also aims to praise the interpreters and those who helped in the creation of the diverse cultural universe expresses in the batuco the Cabo Verdean soul and the recognition of human rights, the rights of citizens, populations and women.
