Praia, Jun 23 (Inforpress) – The plenary session of the National Assembly (Parliament) unanimously approved on Wednesday the bill amending import duty (DI) rates and excise duties (ECI) contained in the customs tariff.
In presenting the bill, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Olavo Correia said that the changes proposed by the Government to parliament result from the consequences of the war in Ukraine which generated an unprecedented humanitarian crisis that justified, in several countries, to taking of public policy measures to meet the need for assistance and protection of families and businesses.
“This law aims to reduce the rate of excise duty on diesel and gasoline by changing from 10% to a specific rate of six escudos per liter, reducing the rate of import duties on gasoline from 20% to 10% and on fuel from 5.0% to 0.0%.
In a statement of vote, the representative of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV – opposition party), Julião Varela, said that his party voted in favor of approving the proposal because “it comes in line with what was one of the PAICV’s proposals presented during the discussion of the State Budget”.
