Parity Law applies to all local and national collective institutions – President of the National Assembly

Praia, Jun 30 (Inforpress) – The president of the National Assembly warned Monday that the applicability of the Parity Law does not only apply to sovereign bodies and City Halls, but to all national collective institutions and it prohibits discrimination based on sex.

Jorge Santos made these considerations during the inauguration ceremony of the Parity Law Follow-up Commission, led by the Women’s Parliamentary Network president, Lúcia Passos, arguing that the claims of this body are in line with the Constitution, which enshrines the principle of gender equality the law itself requires.

The parliamentary house leader referred that the Constitution of the Republic is “based on values ​​of the human dignity and non-discrimination of the person according to sex”, noting that the approval of the Parity Law symbolizes the principle of a journey  goes be evolved through the necessary adaptations each moment to walk paths.

“I can say that in the next two constituencies we will achieve not only parity, but gender equality in Cabo Verde”, said Jorge Santos, regarding to the controversy raised in the choice of people heading the list of candidates to City Halls.
