PAICV says Cape Verde “lost about 32,000 jobs” from 2016 to 2022

Praia, May 16 (Inforpress) – PAICV deputy and national adviser António Fernandes said today that Cabo Verde “lost about 32,000 jobs” from 2016 to 2022, due to the “wrong policy” of the Government supported by the MpD.

At a press conference in Praia, on the recently published employment figures, Fernandes said that the country had risen from around 210,000 employees in 2016 to around 178,000 in 2022.

“Nobody has any doubts that the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, failed with Cabo Verde’s economic development and failed with his promises to Cape Verdeans. He did not promote the 45,000 decent, well-paid jobs. He caused Cabo Verde to lose 32,000 jobs,” he pointed out.

During the press conference, the national adviser of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition) denounced what he classified as “misalignment between the pace of growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the number of employed population and the income of families”, stressing that this misalignment was due to faulty economic governance.
