Praia, April 13 (Inforpress) – The PAICV accused the Government of shirking its responsibilities for the Serra Malagueta fire that led to nine deaths, a denunciation promptly contested by the MpD, which accuses the opposition of “shameful politicization” of this tragedy.
Carla Carvalho, elected by the list of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition) for Santiago Norte, made this accusation during the Political Statement, with which the parliamentary house began its second day of the April parliamentary session.
“While political actors in the rule of law, we agree that democracy does not rhyme with silence or complicity. Democracy rhymes with responsibilities, with accountability, and here the account has an extremely negative balance. It is necessary to assign responsibilities and deliver justice to honor those who died…and to save the rule of law,” she said.
The tragedy in Serra Malagueta, emphasized Carla Carvalho, revealed a country without the conditions to face crises of this nature, accusing the Government of abdicating its roles due to a lack of investment in Civil Protection services during the seven years of the mandate and of dismantling Forest Security Agents.
