PAICV criticizes insecurity, crime and transport, MpD defends with “created narrative” and “optimistic proposal”

Praia, Jun 6 (Inforpress) – The PAICV today criticized the insecurity, transport, violence and crime in the archipelago, accusations refuted by the MpD who considered it to be “a created narrative” and presented an optimistic scenario for 2026.

These considerations were pronounced by parliamentarians António Fernandes (PAICV, opposition) and Filipe Santos (MpD, ruling party) in a separate press conference, on the eve of the parliamentary days in preparation for the first plenary session of June, which begins this Wednesday.

With a debate with the Minister of Tourism and Transport, Carlos Santos, the discussion on transport was proposed by the Movement for Democracy (MpD), as well as legislative initiatives for general and specialised discussion, while the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) chose the debate to strengthen public safety.

As representative of the main opposition party, António Fernandes, who said he was looking forward to an enlightening debate, accused the Government of lacking a holistic vision in relation to internal security and of lacking a commitment to “zero tolerance” in the face of the wave of criminality that “affronts the country”, claiming that criminal cases have increased from 26,000 in 2016/17 to 29,000 in 2021/2022.
