PAICV asks for “greater inspection” in the management of public money invested in municipal works

Praia, Sep 16 (Inforpress) – The president of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition party) called for “greater inspection” on the public money that is used for municipal works, in addition to “more structuring” housing policies.

Janira Hopffer Almada made this intervention to the press, Tuesday, after visits to the neighborhoods most affected by the torrential rains last weekend.

As she pointed out, many works were recently completed, with “exorbitant amounts”, but with the rains they were brought down by the floods, which leads to question the real amounts invested.

There is a need for a more transparent management of money and public affairs, greater inspection by inspection entities, the Court of Auditors, for example, but above all it is necessary to exercise political positions with more patriotism”, she pointed out. The leader of the largest opposition party was also surprised by the fact that, after the rains, the City Hall of Praia and the Government announced the calculation of the damage in the amount of  258 million escudos.
