Mindelo, Jan 23 (Inforpress) – French sailor Antoine Auriol is in Mindelo for the first time with the Ocean Race regatta, but Cape Verde already “knows a lot” through his friendship with kitesurfer Mitú Monteiro with whom he shares the same sponsor.
Antoine is part of the team on the sailboat Malizia, which arrived in Mindelo in third place in the IMOCA category, in this first stage of the 14th edition of the biggest regatta in the world, which makes a stopover in the archipelago for the first time.
However, for the sailor, responsible on the vessel for recording in videos and photographs all the moments of this “adventure”, it is not the first time that he has known the land of Cesária Évora and her friend Mitú Monteiro. The first time was in 2017, heading to the island of Sal, homeland of the Cape Verdean kitesurfer and for competitions in other water sports, kite, surf.
“I loved it, now I’m very happy to be back here, it’s a good country”, he asserted, still feeling his first impressions of São Vicente, that “at first sight it’s a good island, with nice people and magnificent mountains”.
