João Teves, Mar 5 (Inforpress) – The Movement for Democracy (MpD) parliamentary group met Thursday with farmers in São Lourenço dos Órgãos to listen the “main challenges” the agricultural sector faces because of drought and the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the broader meeting, which brought together farmers from various locations in this municipality in the countryside of Santiago, in the Luciano Garcia High School, the men of the field pointed out the lack of water for irrigation, difficulty in implementing drip irrigation and construction of reservoirs as “biggest problems” in the sector.
It is in this sense the MpD parliamentary group leader, Joana Rosa, said they scheduled this meeting to listen to such problems and challenges of the agricultural sector in that municipality, but also to announce the policy measures carried out by the Government in recent years.
For example, it pointed to the drought mitigation programme, and among other executive actions to reduce farmers’ difficulties, especially with regard to access to water.
