Praia, Sep 13 (Inforpress) – The school year 2021/2022 in Cabo Verde starts today with approximately 130.000 students, 6.000 teachers in face to face learning and with a full workload after a year and a half of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the information provided by the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, about 130.000 students and 6.000 teachers returning to classes with full workload are enrolled in preschool, primary and secondary education and with the possibility of classes in primary education on Saturdays, to recover learning delays due to the pandemic.
“Of these 130.000, about 16.500 will be attending kindergartens, 83.500 attending primary school and about 30.000 attending secondary school, from the 9th to 12th grade,” he said, adding that for this year 220 of our teachers were hired and there was mobility, through transfer, of 230 teachers.
However, the functioning of the school year 2021/2022 will still be conditioned by the COVID-19 impacts, but the returning to normality will be initiated with the vaccination of teachers and other staff at schools, as well as pupils aged 18 years or older and the maintenance and strengthening of measures taken to stop the spread of the disease, as one of the requirement for resuming normality.
