Praia, May 21 (Inforpress) – Ulisses Correia e Silva, who took office this Thursday for his second term as Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, assured the first objective is to ensure employment for people, followed by the elimination of extreme poverty in the country.
“The first objective is employment, the second one elimination of extreme poverty and the reduction of absolute poverty and we will achieve this through greater economic growth, but also inclusive policies,” he told reporters moments after being sworn in as Prime Minister.
Ulisses Correia also clarified that when it comes to eliminating extreme poverty, it means not only injecting more income, namely social income inclusion to cover all families in extreme poverty, but also access to education, health, social security and decent housing.
“Then we have other initiatives which have to do with increasing resilience. When we talk about the need to adapt our agriculture to Cabo Verde’s conditions, it means mobilizing water does not depend solely on rain. We are investing heavily in this area of energy transition to reduce dependence on fossil fuels,” he said.
