New Basic Law of Public Employment provides for the increase in maternity leave to 90 days

Praia, Nov 23 (Inforpress) – The new basic law of public employment provides for the increase of maternity leave from 60 to 90 days, for the mother, and the father is entitled to 10 working days.

According to the proposal, which will be socialized this Wednesday, the 24th, in a meeting with unions, public administration leaders and local authorities, the breastfeeding license should be two hours a day, and can be divided into two periods.

The Minister of Modernization of the State and Public Administration, Edna Oliveira, explained that maternity leave, which covered only the mother, should give way to “parental leave” also covering the father, who in the law in force are entitled only to three justified absences.

“So we are making a change, providing for parental leave in which mothers have maternity leave increased from 60 to 90 days and we are providing for the possibility of the father taking a 10-day leave coincident with the first 10 days after the birth of the child,” she explained during her participation in the RCV program Discurso Direto.
