National Assembly suspends mandate of the MP Damião Medina to be brought to justice for alleged crime of VBG

Praia, Aug 5 (Inforpress) – The Standing Committee of the National Assembly suspended on Wednesday the mandate of the  Movement for Democracy (MpD – ruling party) MP Damião Medina, to be brought to justice for alleged crime of VBG at the request of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

According to Radio of Cabo Verde, the mandate is suspended, from October 1, date from which the MP elected on the MpD lists by the constituency of Santo Antão, can be brought to the court for the alleged charges of Gender-Based Violence (VBG).

The alleged crime of VBG was committed by MP Damião Medina about four years ago, and the case came to the attention of the police authorities through a communication from the health authorities on the island of Santo Antão, who helped the person allegedly raped by the MP, since VBG is a public crime.

This is the second time in a month the Cabo Verdean Parliament has suspended the mandate of a MP at the request of the PGR.
