National Assembly confirms inauguration of the New President of the Republic for November 9

Praia, Oct 25 (Inforpress) – The National Assembly confirmed for November 9 the inauguration of the new President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, José Maria Neves, elected in the elections of October 17.

In a statement sent to Inforpress the Communication and Image Office at the Cabo Verdean Parliament said that the President of the National Assembly, in the exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution and after prior consultation with the representatives of the competent Bodies of Sovereignty and with the President of the elected Republic, set for the next day November 9,  at 10:00 AM the Special Swearing-in Session.

According to information gathered by Inforpress, preparations have already taken place, having already been invited, for the ceremony, several national and international personalities, including the Heads of State and the Government of the Economic Community of Economic States of West Africa (ECOWAS) and the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP).

The National Election Commission (CNE) proclaimed Friday, the 22nd, José Maria Neves as the winner of the presidential elections last Sunday, the 17th, with 95.974 votes, the equivalent of 51.75% of the votes. Next comes the candidate Carlos Veiga, supported by the Movement for Democracy (MpD-ruling party) who obtained a total of 78.612 votes, 72.809 in the country and 5.803 abroad.
