Praia, Oct 19 (Inforpress) – A group of artists, dressed in black, took to the streets on Sunday to demonstrate against what they consider “negligence” by the authorities in relation to the situation they are going through, due to COVID-19 pandemic.
“The musicians are going through many difficulties because of this pandemic and we have already waited a long time, but we found they are not paying any attention to us and, therefore, we decided to make this silent demonstration”, explained the spokesman of the demonstrators Zé Rui de Pina, speaking to the press.
According to Zé Rui, the musicians “have been stopped” since March, when the first cases of COVID-19 appeared in the country and “without perspectives on a date we will resume our activities”.
“We came to the street because we are seeing everything happening, namely [electoral] campaigns and places to be reopened, while the artists cannot work”, lamented the musician and producer, adding that they have families to support and live from music. At the moment, he compared Cabo Verdean music to a “shipwreck” is making the lives of artists “complicated”.
