City of Praia, April 12 (Inforpress) – MpD today urged the government to “continue to promote and popularize sports” and denounced “the scourge of discrimination, xenophobia, and racism as a serious problem to be actively combated by public authorities and sports organizations.”
The deputy elected by the Movement for Democracy (MpD, power), Aniceto Barbosa, made these statements during the debate in this first parliamentary session in April on sports and youth, urging the government to expand and monitor program contracts with federations and associations.
Reinforcing the visibility, cooperation, and integration of sports into public policies and strengthening financing through the Sports and Youth Institute (IDJ) were other concerns raised by the parliamentarian, emphasizing that “sports face major ethical challenges and threats to its integrity, such as match-fixing and doping, which must be combated.”
“In this sense, doping is a serious threat to youth and society, as it is not just a problem that affects elite athletes, but also our amateurs,” he added.
