MP considers that is “important” Cabo Verde start paying Community fee in ECOWAS

Praia, Nov 25 (Inforpress) – The national MP for the Africa constituency, Orlando Dias, argued that Cabo Verde must show signs regarding the payment of the Community fee in ECOWAS and it cannot be in an organization without paying fees.

Orlando Dias, who is also vice-president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, made these remarks to the press after being received at a hearing on Wednesday by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, in Praia.

As he explained, the Community fee is a fee that Cabo Verde, as a ECOWAS member, charges through imports and should be forwarded to that organization, but “the State has used this money as if it belong him”.

“It is not a fee that Cabo Verde charges, it comes attached to the fee, but it is to be destined for ECOWAS, not for domestic use and governments have used this and have not paid the community fee, we have a large debt of about 20 million euros (2.2 million escudos)”, he pointed out.
