Morna classification will be another attraction for the world to come to know Cabo Verde – Cremilda Medina

Praia, Dec 11 (Inforpress) – The interpreter of morna Cremilda Medina said she believes that the classification of morna as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity will be another attraction for the world to come to know Cabo Verde, its roots and its traditions.

Confident that on the 12th, the Intergovernmental Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which is meeting in Bogota, Colombia, will decide to ratify the application form of the Morna, Cremilda Medina told Inforpress that this distinction will be a “great joy” for all Cabo Verdeans, especially composers and performers of this style.

“It will be another attraction for the world to come to know Cabo Verde, our roots and our traditions, since Morna represents Cabo Verdean identity and feeling. Receiving this distinction is another stamp in our Cabo Verdean passport and a great Christmas gift,” she said.

For the holder of the “Best World Music” (International Music) trophy of the International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA), with the theme “Nôs Morna” by composer Manuel d’Novas, after this classification the biggest challenge is to continue with this promotion, to give opportunity for new creators, composers and performers.
