Minister of Culture stresses importance of “rooting culture” in social programmes

Praia, Oct 19 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Culture today stressed the importance of “culture being rooted” in social programmes in order to promote the inclusion of young people with special needs and contribute to the empowerment of their communities.

Abraão Vicente made these remarks to the press on the sidelines of a visit he made on Monday to the facilities of the Colmeia and Acarinhar, in Praia, as part of the National Day of Culture and Communities.

As he explained, the Ministry of Culture wanted with this visit to demonstrate that culture goes beyond the boundaries of entertainment and show, remembering that the Colmeia and Acarinhar, which are Associations working with children and adolescents with special needs, have benefited with assistance to access to culture.

“Culture when rooted in social programmes has benefits for all people, when we see the families of some young people with some kind of difficulty or learning from the so-called normal young people they are together through culture and contribute to the empowerment of their communities,” he said.
