Praia, Apr. 10 (Inforpress) – The government does not plan to increase the value of the minimum social pension, said today the Minister of Family, Inclusion, and Social Development, indicating that the option of the Cape Verdean executive is to expand the number of beneficiaries.
Fernando Elísio Freire spoke to journalists following today’s meeting in Praia of social security non-contributory scheme partners, when he was confronted with the issue of increasing the value of pensions to cope with inflation.
“It’s a matter of choice between those who have zero and 6,000 escudos. Either we put 1,000 escudos to make it seven or we expand the number of people who have access to the pension. The government’s choice is clear: to expand the number of people with access to the pension because it is an act of human dignity and we will maintain this path,” he said.
Fernando Elísio Freire stressed that the government’s goal is to expand the pension level to all Cape Verdean society and ensure that everyone in need can have access to this non-contributory scheme.
