Maritime Transportation: Shipowners of the São Vicente/Santo Antão line hold meeting with drivers to discuss cargo rates

Mindelo, April 28 (Inforpress) – The shipowners of the São Vicente/Santo Antão maritime line will hold meetings with Santo Antão vehicle drivers on May 6th and 7th to discuss a “new and consensual” proposal for cargo rates.

The information was exclusively disclosed to Inforpress by the majority shareholder of Naviera Armas Cabo Verde (NACV), Valdemiro Ferreira, also known as Vlu, who assured that the proposal for the meetings came from his company.

According to the same source, both NACV, owner of the “Nôs ferry Mar d´Canal” ship, and Cabo Verde Interilhas (CVI), owner of the Chiquinho BL ship, are inviting drivers and representatives to meetings next weekend, on May 6th and 7th, to discuss the update of freight charges between Mindelo and Santo Antão.

This comes as the government had approved a new price list for cargo effective from April 20, which determined a price increase for vehicle transportation from 5,400 escudos to 15,250 escudos per vehicle. This increase led drivers to protest and refuse to travel on the Chiquinho BL ship, the only one that was already applying the new rate.
